Week 2 and the 100% records tumble

Winter League

Review of all the matches played in Divisions 5 & 6 on Thursday 26 October

On Thursday there was a total of eight matches played across these two divisions in the League and all eight finished with the same 6-2 scoreline.

In Week 2 of the Division 5 season and only 2 of the 9 teams can boast a 100% winning record. Slaithwaite were denied the opportunity to extend their opening day win by having a bye this week allowing Brockholes B to take over with a second win to go top of the table. A 6-2 win over the host club is always satisfying and doubly so when it enables your team to go to the top of the early table.

Slaithwaite and Outlane are both new to the League and both teams have made good starts to their inaugural seasons. After an opening day 4-4 draw Outlane collected the bulk of the points when beating first day winners Huddersfield Recreation Club by 6-2 to claim second spot. then there was a first win for Springwood C by overcoming a Jackson Bridge side playing their first match of the season.

In Division 6 the host team, Huddersfield RUFC, lost for the first time going down to Lockwood Con B but staying very much in the promotion picture in third position as are Linthwaite Hall despite not playing this week they are only four points off top slot with a match in hand over all the teams above them. That puts them behind New Mill C and Cowcliffe B who are both new to the Winter League and they both had wins this week over bottom two opponents, Kirkheaton Con B and Broad Oak who are both still looking for their first wins of the season as are Mirfield B.

All can take heart from Golcar C&BC who did clock up that first win when beating Mirfield B this week and moving their points total into double figures. Now having completed the Week 4 programme and none of the nine teams has a 100% record indicating how open this division is likely to be. A good run of results by any team from here could change everything.
