Bowling News
Will 2025 be remembered as the season that more bowlers were playing every week in the Huddersfield Veterans League than there were in the Huddersfield Saturday League? In fact the Veterans League is very close to becoming bigger than the Mirfield League which many consider to be the top league nationally in crown green bowling. I wonder what the difference might have been if there wasn't an age restriction on the Veterans League membership? How long before the Mirfield League is overtaken? Just asking for a friend.
SEASON 2025

It is a worrying trend that supports the belief that crown green bowling is an old man's sport. Whereas many people think that it is only the old man numbers that keeps the supposed mainline leagues viable?
All five divisions of the Veterans 10-Man League have 12 teams of ten bowlers. The Saturday League has four divisons (46 teams) of 10-man teams and the Binns has 16 teams of 8 men per team. The Mirfield League has four divisions (40 teams) of 10-man teams and three divisions (27 teams) of 8-man teams.
