Unpredictable ending to Division 2 season

Winter League

Review of the last day of the Division 2 season on Tuesday at Cowcliffe Lib

What a strange and unpredictable day we had to sign off the 2025-26 Division 2 season on Tuesday with even the sun joining in the celebrations. These are the headlines:

  • After remaining unbeaten all season and aiming to finish with a record 100 points total, Clayton West lost 2-6 to New Mill B, who took the second promotion place

  • Lowerhouses B won for the first time since the opening day of the season and a first 8-0 scoreline to condemn Milnsbridge A to join them in the relegation places

  • Meltham A lost 2-6 to Lowerhouses A but avoided relegation after losing the first 5 fixtures of the season and then getting six wins from their last 9 matches

  • Milnsbridge A were in a comfortable mid-table position until mid-January then losing 4 of their last 5 matches to end up in the second relegation place

  • New Mill B have been in the Winter League for three seasons and they have achieved promotion each year, including twice as runners-up
