Tough matches keep coming for new boys

Winter League

Preview of the Divisions 1 & 2 fixtures scheduled for Wednesday 15 November

Winter League bowling is different to the summer version as Golcar Lib are finding out the hard way. With two straight 0-8 defeats in their first two Division 1 matches the Veterans League Champions have still to come to terms with the four-man team format. I wonder if their confrontation with promoted Lowerhouses A will offer an opportunity to collect their first points? Yet Lowerhouses have opened their season strongly with two 6-2 wins from two matches as they look to consolidate their position at the top level after their promotion last season.

Winter League Champions Lower Hopton also started the season in uncharacteristic fashion with two straight defeats. They have since addressed that by opening their new season account but will be frustrated not being able to follow that up with a bye week this Wednesday.

That gives early leaders Thorpe Green more time to widen the gap ahead of their big rivals and a match this week with winless Meltham may suit their purpose. The top clash of the day is 2nd v 4th as Clayton West take on Lindley BC A. The promoted Lindley side will be keen to reduce the 6 point gap that there currently is between the two teams but the Clayton West team will be looking to bounce back from their first defeat of the season suffered last week against Thorpe Green. That just leaves a meeting of the deposed leaders New Mill A against winless Kirkheaton Con A to complete the Week 4 fixture programme.

There is just one 100% win record in Division 2 and that belongs to Cowcliffe A who will be put to the test by second-placed Milnsbridge A at Springwood this week. The Milnsbridge side lost for the first time this season when surprisingly going down 2-6 to Lockwood Con A who were winning for the first time. Relegated Lindley Lib A have lost their last two matches to the top two teams and will be thankful for less taxing opponents this week as they take on Brockholes A who are still seeking their first win of the season.

Two teams on the same 10-points total meet up as Springwood A take on Lockwood Con A although Springwood have amassed their total from one less match so will fancy their chances on their own green. However the Lockwood team arguably had their best win in two seasons when seeing off Milnsbridge A last week so will be in good heart for this fixture.

That just leaves the bottom two teams to fight it out between them as to which of them will be sat at the foot of the table after this latest round of matches. Huddersfield Recreation Club A and Denby Dale go head-to-head in a fixture that could see them both avoid the bottom spot if results go their way. Both have a match in hand over their nearest rival, Brockholes A, and both will be keen to get away from the drop zone sooner rather than later which this fixture offers.
