Top versus Bottom in Division 1

Veterans League

Preview of the Veterans 10-Man League Divisions 1&2 fixtures for Tuesday 24 June

On the back of their Team KO success on Thursday the Longwood team can now concentrate on their challenge for the Division 1 title with an away fixture at bottom-of-the-table, Waterloo, who won for the first time this season last week. With a two-points lead over Lowerhouses, who have a more difficult-looking match at Cowcliffe, Longwood will be hopeful of preserving and maybe extending that lead.

Third in the table, Rastrick, have recovered from their opening day 0-9 reverse by winning 5 of their next 7 fixtures all by the same 7-2 scoreline. This week they travel to play Kirkheaton Con A who, after winning their first four matches, have then lost their next four and will be keen to end that sequence.

Fourth-placed Golcar Lib A host a Lindley Lib A team that hasn't won an away match this season. Clayton West and Marsh United A are separated by one point and both will be looking to claim the bulk of the points on offer and address any concerns about getting sucked into the relegation battle. Meltham A and Lockwood Con A are already in that battle of four teams and a win for either when they meet on Tuesday will lessen that threat immediately.

It is the much-awaited Division 2 Elland Derby match this Tuesday as the WMC host their C&BC rivals with the two teams taking up the top two places in the table. A 10-points lead for the visitors shows their supremacy at this level although they did lose their unbeaten win record when last week surprisingly losing at the 8th time of asking away at bottom-of-the-table Golcar Lib B. The WMC will be keen to exploit any dip in form and with the emerging threat posed by Thornsbridge A they will be keen to win this match for a whole host of reasons.

On a run of four straight wins the Thongsbridge team will expect to add to that run with a home fixture against relegation-threatened Denby Dale. New Mill A are in danger of becoming fully engaged in the relegation tussle with only one win in their last five outings and just above the bottom three teams who are themselves only one point apart.

Denby Dale are the only bottom-three team with a home fixture this week as the bottom two of Netherton Con A and Golcar Lib B have to go to Broad Oak A and Almondbury BC A respectively. Only the table-toppers from Elland C&BC have punctured the Broad Oak home record. However, the Almondbury side haven't been their normal resilient home-bankers this year offering some hope to Golcar Lib B especially after their epic boost from their win over Elland C&BC last week. A Milnsbridge A versus Lindley BC A fixture completes the Tuesday lineup.
