My tip for the Division 1 title is Waterloo and they shrugged off that burden with an emphatic opening day 7-0 home win over Brockholes B. That puts them clear of the rest of the teams including reigning Champions Marsh United A who went down 1-6 away at Skel Windmill A. That was a better outcome than last year when they lost the same fixture 0-7 but still went on to lift the trophy and who is to say that they wont do the same again this season.
Differing fortunes for the two newly promoted teams as Clayton West registered a 5-2 away win at Slaithwaite whilst New Mill A went down by the same scoreline away at Netherton Con A. That win for Clayton West was one of only two away wins on the opening day with the other coming from Thongsbridge A who clocked up a 5-2 win at Golcar C&BC.

New team Broad Oak justified their entry into Division 2 with an opening day 6-1 away win over promoted Thongsbridge B. That was one of three away wins with Marsh Lib and Holmfirth A also picking up the majority of the points on their travels. Marsh Lib A won at relegated Lindley Lib A by 5-2 to make an early move into the promotion hunt as identified in an earlier preview. The Holmfirth side had a good 4-3 win at promoted Brockholes B with a 83-81 aggregate success proving key.
Two of the four teams relegated from Division 1 faced each other with Lockwood Con taking the honours with a 6-1 home win over Paddock I&C and that puts them in second place in the first table of the season. A 7-0 whitewash home win for Crosland Moor over Longwood sees the winners topping the table as the teams begin 6 months of good competition which will not all be played in the glorious sunshine of the opening day of the season.
