Winter League
This week we take a look at the individual Averages in each of our three divisions as the top bowler in each division wins a trophy. The criteria for positions is based on Number of Games Won. In the event of there being a draw then it passes on to the one with the Best Average.
With one week left to play in Division 1 Adrian 'Crafty' Cooper led the Averages table and could only be deposed by losing his final game against a Rastrick 'A' singles bowler. Having won 12 of his 15 games this season he was a hot favourite and had headed the table for most of the season but he fell to a 16-21 defeat to Peter Hardcastle and lost the title to Graham Hirst of Lower Hopton at the same time.
As both bowlers had won 13 of their games this season it came down to the better Average score with Graham edging it by 6.56 to Crafty's 6.00. Graham will now take the Founders' Trophy to make it a double for the Lower Hopton team after lifting the team title as well.
In Division 2 Meltham team-mates Eddie Haigh and Allan Chapman sit first and second with Eddie leading the way but level on 13 wins each. Eddie has a 9.47 to 5.40 better average of the two. They both have one game left to play and cannot afford to slip up as Barrie Morgan of Lindley Lib sits two wins behind them but with 2 games left to play.
David McClean of Thorpe Green 'C' is the Division 3 Champion Top Bowler with an unbeaten run of results until last week but he has still accumulated 13 wins which is 2 more than Steve Haigh of Lindley BC 'B' with only one match left to play so cannot overtake the leader. David will be presented with his trophy at the match on Monday.
