Veterans League
If the opening day of the Division 6 winter fixture programme is any guide then we are in for a very close completion in this division this season. Three of the four matches ended up being drawn and a 4-4 points share-out making for a congested first league table of the season.
There was one winning team and that was New Mill C who whitewashed Cowcliffe B 8-0 to head the table at the end of Week 1 of the 18-week season. The well-fancied Linthwaite Hall team head the chasing pack of 6 teams on 4 points courtesy of their better Aggregate For total. New Mill C were not one of the favourite picks by Fantasy League punters only securing 3 votes so that is an interesting opening table which puts them four points clear at the top but a long way to go yet.
It was a good day for the League with a second new host green in operation and a bumper crowd of over 70 people enjoying the spectacle of winter bowling. With 6 new teams involved it meant that most of the bowlers were enjoying the experience of being watched by such a large crowd for the first time and they didn't disappoint. Hot soup and hot sausage rolls with a selection of cakes ensured that the crowd were well looked after and most stayed until very end of a hugely successful first day for Huddersfield Rugby Union Football Club both on and off the green.
