Review of the final round of League fixtures in Division 1 played on Wednesday

Thorpe Green are the Division 1 Champions for a third successive season after a final day 6-2 win over relegated Kirkheaton Con A. Only a one-point aggregate difference (53-54) stopped the Kirkheaton team from snatching a draw in their final match at this level for at least another year. Only one defeat all season for the Thorpe Green side, and that was in early December to Lower Hopton. It was the Lower Hopton team that turned out to be the greatest threat to the Champions hat-trick of titles, eventually finishing second, some nine points behind the leaders.
The season finished with drawn results from the other three fixtures, reflecting the level of competition that still abounds in the top division. That included a most commendable 4-4 draw for Golcar Lib against a Hanging Heaton A team that has established itself at this level after promotion last season. That encouraging result for the Golcar Lib came too late to help them fight off relegation but these are good bowlers that have struggled on this green for some reason.
THORPE GREEN A 2025-26 DIVISION 1 CHAMPIONS

The Division 1 Top Bowler Trophy goes to Lower Hopton bowler Nick Oddy who shared top spot with Ian Briggs (Thorpe Green A) with both on 11 wins but lost out on the Aggregate Difference totals which were 102-74 in Nick's favour. Nick will be presented with his award prior to the start of the Division 1 Winter Cup Qualifying Round next Wednesday at Milnsbridge.
