Winter League

Preview of Division 1 & 2 fixtures scheduled for 11.30am start on Wednesday 1 November

Week 2 for Division 1 and Division 2 teams with a few needing to get over a disappointing opening week result not least of all being Lower Hopton the reigning League Champions. That wont be easy for them as they meet last season's runners-up Thorpe Green A who were just one point off claiming the title for themselves last season and made a winning start to their season last week. Lower Hopton won both meetings of the two teams last season which eventually won the title for them.

Meanwhile the early leaders this year are New Mill A who had a great opening day 8-0 win over Meltham who finished three places above them in last season's final table. This week they take on the Golcar Lib side who had a traumatic introduction to the League when getting hammered 8-0 by Clayton West last Wednesday.

Clayton West will look to build on that first-day win when they meet Kirkheaton Con this week and as the teams were only separated by 2 points at the end of last season another close encounter is likely. The two teams promoted from Division 2 at the end of last season meet up again as Lowerhouses A play their first match of the new season against Lindley BC A. As they both beat each other last season it will be interesting to see how that form pans out especially as the Lindley team had a fabulous opening day 6-2 victory over the reigning Division 1 Champions, Lower Hopton.

In Division 2 last week three teams logged 8-0 opening day wins and two of those three victors meet this week as Lindley Lib A take on Milnsbridge A. The Lindley outfit are aiming to make a quick return to the top division and made their intentions very clear when producing a whitewash win over Lockwood Con A last Wednesday. That result was matched by their opponents this week, Milnsbridge A, who saw off Denby Dale to make their own intentions very clear after just missing out on promotion last season. The new boys from Cowcliffe A made the ideal start to their Winter League debut season when emphatically beating Lindley BC B 8-0 and as a result now lead the table. This week they take on newly-promoted Huddersfield Recreation Club A who had a bye last week but will be keen to establish themselves at this level.

Two of the teams on the wrong end of those opening day 8-0 scorelines go head-to-head as Lindley BC B and Lockwood Con A meet this week. Denby Dale will also be looking to pick up points against newly promoted Brockholes A who could only claim two points from their first match at this level after coming up as the Division 3 title winners last season.
