The second half of the season starts now

Veterans League

Preview of the fixtures in Divisions 3,4&5 of the 10-Man League scheduled for Tuesday 15 July

Division 3 leaders Almondbury Lib revisit their opening day losing encounter with Brockholes' A looking to avenge that initial defeat. Only one other defeat since April's 2-7 loss and a chance to put the records straight on their own green. The leaders now have a 10-points lead over Tuesday's opponents and will not want to see that reduced at all. The Brockholes team have only had one away win all season and that was in the second match of the season so a win this week would be unexpected.

Hemplow A will be watching for any slip-ups on the part of the leaders and with a 7-points gap to fill will want to get something from their Tuesday trip to play Lindley Lib B in anticipation of being ready to pounce.

The teams in 4th and 5th position in the table meet up and if either has aspirations to join in the promotion race then they need to win this fixture. Springwood (5th) have home advantage over Linthwaite Hall (4th). Both are in their best form runs of the season to date with Springwood winning 4 of their last 5 whereas the Linthwaite team have won all 5 of their latest fixtures.

In contrast bottom of the table, Marsh Lib A are in their worst run of the season losing all of their last three matches including a 0-9 setback at Springwood last time out. A trip to play fellow strugglers Paddock I&C may not have been high on their wishlist but these are the games they have to win if survival is to become a reality.

Thorpe Green are in a similar situation with only one win in their last five and a trip to play Slaithwaite this Tuesday. Lockwood Con B and Holmfirth A have identical Won-5 Lost-6 records but are separated by 9 points and 3 places in Holmfirth's favour as they go up against each other and with Holmfirth having home advantage they will start favourites.

Skel Windmill will expect to continue where they left off at the halfway mark of the season as they look to extend their 100% win record and 16 points lead at the top of the Division 4 table.

Mid-table Huddersfield Recreation Club are the latest team to attempt to stop the steamroller performances of the runaway leaders.

A pack of four teams separated by 5 points make up the contenders for the second promotion place led by Kirkheaton C&BC A who this week have home advantage against another member of that pack, Milnsbridge B. A strong challenge is expected from Marsh United B as they face bottom of the table Netherton Con B who haven't won away from home all season.

David Brown Sports will be looking for a big home win over Ravensknowle Park which could lift them above their opponents in the table. Primrose Hill Lib would like to think the same could happen to them as they host third in the table Rugby Club but a 6 points gap to safety may prove to be a touch too far at present as they have lost their last 5 fixtures.

Meltham B had been making a good effort to move out of the relegation places with a 4-match winning run before going under the hammer at Skel Windmill losing 0-9 last week. If they can recover from that then an away match at Thongsbridge B may not be beyond them.

The top two teams in Division 5 face each other this week as the leaders, Kirkheaton Con B travel to play Brockholes B. One point separates them at present with the teams in 3rd and 4th places also facing each other with only four points between all four of them. The Hemplow B versus Dalton match sees the home side on the best run of any team in the division having won their last 5 matches.
