The new WhatsApp group is up and running

Portal News

We are always looking for ways to enhance the HuddWeb experience and one area that we have failed in is introducing a discussion board facility for interested bowlers to swap stories, opinions and topics of interest. We have tried different versions of systems without any long-lasting success. We may have to accept that many bowlers are loath to comment on all things bowling but we haven't given up yet.

Today we launch the new HuddWeb WhatsApp group for bowlers who want to contribute to the sport off the green as well as on it. An opportunity to share ideas, opinions and stories, in fact almost anything bowling related. It is an open discussion board about bowling in Huddersfield. Regardless of which local leagues you play in everyone is welcome.

This is not a platform for anyone looking to promote another personal cause regardless of how genuine it might be. It is not a forum for comedy videos or cartoons (unless they are bowling-related). There are other sites you can use that are much better at it than we will be here.

We have had our HuddWeb Facebook pages for some years but that only goes so far in satisfying a recognised need to engage more easily with the local bowling community. So we are taking the quest one step further by setting up our own WhatsApp group. The intent being that a dedicated HuddWeb WhatsApp group would be open to all to discuss any bowling-related topic that members cared to introduce.

What is WhatsApp?

Launched in 2009, WhatsApp is a free, multi-platform messaging app that lets users make video and voice calls, send text messages, share their status, and more with just a Wi-Fi connection. Part of what makes this app appealing is that it works on various phone and computer operating systems, so you can continue your conversation anytime, anywhere. It can also take advantage of Wi-Fi and cellular data to make one-on-one or group calls, reducing the need for expensive calling charges. You can make free international phone calls. WhatsApp, owned by Facebook, now has 1 billion users worldwide and is the biggest online messenger app on the market.

To use WhatsApp you need a compatible smartphone or tablet with a sim card, an internet connection, and a mobile phone number. The app uses your phone number as its username, and your account is locked to the phone, although you can transfer your contacts over to new devices.

How do I join the HuddWeb WhatsApp group?

The HuddWeb WhatsApp group has been launched today - Friday 13 January (yes I know!!). There are no costs to joining the group. If you are not already a WhatsAppp user you need to download WhatsApp from Apple Store or Play Store onto your smartphone and register for a new account.

You have to be a member to be able to view the comments and discussions. Membership is free for ever.

To join our new group just fill in the form below and submit it anytime. Once received and we are comfortable with your reasons to join the group we will send you a link to join up. The service is now open for new members and everyone who signs up will get that link invitation to join up for the first time. Completing and submitting the form below is the first step in becoming a member.

When you log in for the first time we ask that you add a few lines as your first posting that introduce yourself to the other members. You can include any positions you hold (or have held in the past) in bowling leagues or clubs, what teams you play for and anything that particularly interests you about bowling in the Huddersfield area. But if you would rather not do that then that is fine you don't have to.
