The 6 top picks in the Fantasy League

Well Bowled Fantasy League

Now that we have closed the door on entries for the Fantasy Winter League we can peruse the 90 entries to see which teams are favoured by our punters this time around.

This table shows the number of Fantasy League selections made for each of the 54 teams in the League.

In Division 1 the reigning Champions, Lower Hopton, remain the most popular choice even though Thorpe Green only finished one point behind them last year. The introduction of a team from the Veterans League Champions, Golcar Lib, has attracted some support so literally a three-horse race according to the Fantasy League entrants.

Another top three contest in Division 2 according to the punters with the one new team, Cowcliffe A, in the division attracting over a third of the total votes available. Huddersfield Recreation Club have two teams in the League and neither has attracted a single vote.

We are down to just two real contenders for the Division 3 title according to the Fantasy League entrants and they are the two new teams in this division, Hanging Heaton and Marsh United. Marsh United have already started their season with an 8-0 win to put them at the top of the table but Hanging Heaton have still to play their first match. Hanging Heaton have attracted over half of the 90 votes available to them and more than any team in any of the six divisions. In contrast Primrose Hill Lib team have only attracted one vote despite playing all their matches on their own green.

Division 4 looks like being a tight call as our entrants have three main contenders with just five points separating them. New Mill B being one of those three and the one new team in the frame.

In Division 5 we have more teams sharing out the votes with the most teams in double figures of any division. However Slaithwaite with 31 votes of confidence are the punters clear favourites for this title. At the other end 2 of the 3 teams failing to attract a single vote are Division 5 members, Huddersfield Recreation Club B and Springwood C.

Only two main contenders for the Division 6 title with one point separating Linthwaite Hall and Lockwood Con B who are both new to the League as are 7 of the 9 teams in this division. There is some support for RUFC on their own green as the rest of the votes are shared out between the other seven teams. The 3 entrants who added New Mill C to their stable of teams will be delighted to find them at the top of Week 1 Table.

All this is pure speculation of course but it will be interesting to see how the season pans out and how the best and worst supported teams perform.

The updated Fantasy League tables will be featured on HuddWeb right through the Winter League season including the new Top Team Trio competition.
