Preview of the Veterans 10-Man League Divisions 1&2 fixtures on Tuesday 3 September
Big match at the bottom of Division 1 as the two teams most in danger of claiming the second relegation place go head-to-head this Tuesday. Lindley BC A have a two-points lead over Clayton West and have home advantage as the two teams face up to the reality that this could be a defining moment in both their seasons. Both teams won their last matches after lengthy losing runs so will be heartened by that outcome but a look at the remaining 5 fixtures for both teams shows the importance of this week's clash.
The top 4 teams in Division 2 meet each other this Tuesday which could be a key moment in the race for the 2nd promotion place with one point separating the 2nd and 3rd placed teams. Lindley Lib A currently have the advantage but a home match against the division's runaway leaders, Meltham, isn't the ideal opponent they would have preferred at this time.
Third-placed Elland C&BC have a home match against 4th-placed Milnsbridge A who have their last throw of the dice to get involved in the promotion battle. Defeat for Milnsbridge would surely signal the end of any promotion hopes this year.
The remaining fixture programme for both prime contenders show that both have 3 home matches and 2 away from home. Three of their five opponents are the same, Milnsbridge A, Linthwaite Hall and Golcar Lib B, although the venues do vary. The latest form is not the best of the season from either team with both losing 2 of their last 3 fixtures.
A not dis-similar situation is developing at the foot of the table with one point separating Broad Oak A and Linthwaite Hall who are both trying to avoid the 2nd relegation place with Almondbury Lib already doomed for the drop. The two candidates for relegation meet up this Tuesday with Broad Oak having home advantage and in their best run of results of the season with only Meltham managing to beat them in their last 5 matches.
