A review of the Division 2 matches played on Wednesday 17 November
Springwood 'A' lost their unbeaten record this week when going down in their Division 2 fixture in emphatic style 0-8 to a rampant Jackson Bridge side. This came after a run of three consecutive 8-0 victories for the Springwood team to start their season and now they have tasted some of their own medicine. Springwood continued their player rotation policy which has served them so well to date by playing their 9th different bowler of the season. But Jackson Bridge have used an identical number of different bowlers and they came out on top this time around with the result including a 21-nil win for Lyn Szlachcic.
That result left the way clear for Meltham to pull clear at the top which they duly did with an 8-0 whitewash win over Denby Dale which was their fourth 8-0 win in their fifth match of the season. The losers can take some comfort in the fact that their aggregate total of 51 points was the highest losing total on the day so better days ahead methinks.
Lindley Lib took full advantage of Springwood's setback result by posting an 8-0 win of their own over Paddock I&C to move clear in 2nd place. Only the leaders Meltham have beaten the Lindley team this season and with Meltham scheduled to play Springwood 'A' and Jackson Bridge in their next two fixtures things could be about to change, or not.
The closest result of the week was the 54-50 aggregate win for Almondbury BC as they overcame Huddersfield Recreation Club 'A' 6-2 to move up to 5th place and leave their opponents still looking for their first win of the season. However the signs are more promising for the Recreation Club although their next two matches are against Lindley Lib and Jackson Bridge so that will be a real test for them.
Later today we will be posting 15 action photographs from the Division 2 matches played this week.
