The 3rd running of this memorial dedicated to one of the Colne Valley’s finest sons has had its Last 16 drawn below after qualifying on four greens on Saturday.
It includes both former winners in Paul Ingleby (2022) & Neil Slattery (2023) plus both runner ups in Billy Shaw & Steve Haigh. In fact, former Yorkshire Merit winner, Haigh was the last winner of the Vic Sugden when he won it for the 2nd time in 2019 & this event replaced that in the CV calendar.
Four time CV Merit winner, Ashley Daykin will be one of the favourites but he may have to overcome the 2022 Huddersfield Merit winner, Terry Brook in the bottom half of the draw.
Ingleby has also won the CV merit twice and when he won it in 1990, he beat Haigh’s father, Harry in the final.
Play starts at 2pm & there promises to be a new event, a “Bowls Royal Rumble” over 29 ends after the Final. Full bar & food available from the host club.
