Preview of the Tuesday 16 July fixtures in Divisions 1 & 2 of the 10-Man League
The top three teams in Division 1 all have home fixtures this Tuesday with the leaders, Lowerhouses A, hosting a Clayton West team that won an away match for the firm of the table Netherton Con A but this week's opponents are a very different proposition. Holding a 10-points lead at the top of the table and on course for a first-ever Champions success they will relish the opportunity to extend that lead further.
This week's fixtures are the reverse of the opening day of the season matches when Lowerhouses suffered their only defeat of the season by 2-7 at Clayton West. So there is the small matter of avenging that hiccough in their season and the West will do well to avoid that outcome..
However 2nd placed Marsh United A may have a lower-placed opponent in Netherton Con A this week and so presumably a chance to narrow the gap at the top. Third-placed Waterloo will also fancy their chances of a big home win over a visiting Lindley BC A side who have lost their last 5 matches and dropped down the table as a result.
Rastrick's home match last week was called off due to a dangerous green so Lockwood Con A will hope that matter has been addressed as they visit this Tuesday. Cowcliffe are on a good run of 4 straight wins as opposed to their Tuesday visitors Golcar Lib who have lost their last 3 matches and with it all hopes of challenging to retain the Division 1 title they have held for the past two years.
The rearranged fixture between Kirkheaton Con A and Longwood goes ahead this Tuesday as part of a double-header on the Kirkheaton green with the club's B team first up with a 12.30pm start followed by the A team fixture starting around 3.00pm.
Division 2 leaders, Meltham, are on a run of 7 straight wins and having also beaten Tuesday's opponents, Golcar Lib B with a whitewash 9-0 scoreline on the opening day of the season will be looking for something similar this week. The three teams behind the leaders also have away fixtures this week.
Of those three, second-placed Elland C&BC have the highest-placed opponent in Almondbury BC A whilst the other two have bottom three opposition. Lindley Lib A are at Broad Oak A and Milnsbridge A visit Linthwaite Hall. Lindley Lib A are on a run of four straight wins and will view this week's encounter as an invitation to make it five on the trot. Thongsbridge A will see a home match against bottom-of-the-table Almondbury Lib as a great opportunity to push on into the top four if Milnsbridge fail to cash in on their visit to Linthwaite Hall.
