Reprieve for Huddersfield Champion of Champions

Updated: Aug 14, 2023

Bowling News

In early June I included a report on the non-appearance of the Huddersfield Champion of Champions this year when Bill Blackburn lamented the demise of a competition that has been held annually since 1945 and was being stood down due to a lack of a competition organiser.

That prompted Mark Sykes to jump to the rescue and by gaining the support of a number of clubs has been able to create a programme of local competitions to be staged over the rest of the season including the prestigious Champion of Champions title.

Mark takes up the story ....

After reading Bill Blackburn's piece on one of your posts regards none of Huddersfield comps being run hence there will be no champ of champions competition, I thought something had to be done, so with help from clubs I've got a calendar for the rest of season.

I must apologise to any club hosting member/guest or their own competitions but hopefully this is a one-off and back to some normality next year.

Sat 19th August Huddersfield Merit @ Golcar lib

Sun 20th August Jack Burgin Trophy @ Lockwood con

Bank Holiday Monday 28th August Paul Sigsworth Memorial Trophy @ Linthwaite Hall

Sun 3rd September Spring Handicap @ Meltham BC

Sun 24th September Autumn Handicap @ Lindley BC

Sat 7th October Champion of Champions @ Kirkheaton Con

We hope to keep you up to date with all the entries, deadlines and competition news throughout the rest of the season through the HuddWeb pages. Well done Mark. He says that this is a one-off but sometimes such things have a habit of becoming something more permanent.
