R.I.P. Bob Ellis

Rest in Peace

I am grateful to Peter Swinden for letting me know about the passing of his Meltham club mate Bob Ellis. These are Peter's words ....

Bob passed away a few weeks ago after a fight with cancer which he finally lost. Bob was a staunch member of the Meltham Community as well as the Bowling Club, though he was in his sixties when he took the game up and quickly became hooked.

A fierce competitor, but always a sportsman, who improved over the years, playing in the first teams at Meltham. Bob always had a sense of humour always with a tale to tell and was a keen socializer in the Club and Libs as well as player.  His presence will be missed at the clubs and pubs in Meltham as well as the wider Community.

A loyal and faithful member of the Club and exceptional friend to many. A loss to all especially his loved family, but he will be fondly remembered with a smile by all his friends at the club.

Bob's last bowling matches were for the Meltham B team in the Veterans 10-Man League last season when he played 14 matches. The last three all being in the final month of the 2025 season and he won them all.

Robert ELLIS Passed away peacefully, on the 30th March 2026, aged 82 years, at the Abbey Care Village, and of Meltham.

Bob, the loving husband of Patricia (Pat), much loved dad of Rob and Richard, the proud grandad of Thomas, Anna-Mae, Fred and Oscar, also the caring father-in-law of Ruth and Nathalie.

Bob was a keen bowler, fan of rugby league, cricket, and longtime Town and Liverpool fan.

A celebration of Bob's life will be held at the Huddersfield Crematorium on Wednesday 29th April 2026 at 12:30pm and afterwards at Meltham Sports and Community Centre, Mean Lane.
