Veterans League
Preview of the Veterans 10-Man Divisions 3,4&5 fixtures scheduled for Tuesday 3 September
The two promotion places in Division 3 are sorted as Elland WMC and Denby Dale are 19 points clear of the chasing pack but which one of them will take the title? Elland currently hold a 6 points lead over their rivals but that is just one weeks swapping of results away from a change in the pecking order. Both teams have away fixtures this week with the leaders having the stronger, on paper, opponents in 3rd placed Slaithwaite. Couple that with the form indicator that shows that Slaithwaite have won their last 8 matches raises the hopes of a Denby Dale team visiting a Springwood team that needs the points to stay above the drop zone which is perilously close.
Kirkheaton C&BC are the only top three team in Division 4 with an away fixture this week and that happens to be against the team immediately below them in the table, Milnsbridge B. That will make it difficult for the Cricket Club to close the one-point gap there currently is to threaten the promotion places of Marsh United B and Lockwood Con B. However both these teams have home fixtures this Tuesday with Lockwood Con up against bottom-of-the-table Lindley BC B.
There will be no change in the teams in the two relegation places this week with Lindley BC B and Meltham B too far adrift of their nearest rivals to threaten any sort of great escape as things stand at present. Regardless of any combination of results those two places will still be occupied by the same two occupants come Tuesday tea-time.
It will be interesting to see if Dalton can launch a Division 5 promotion challenge after their great 9-0 away win last week to make it three wins on the bounce. This Tuesday they are at home to an improving Broad Oak B side and will be looking for another big win to boost their promotion hopes. With Netherton Con B and David Brown Sports both meeting lower half of the table opponents it is difficult to see any change in the running order this week.
