Almondbury BC bowler Peter Clay caused not one, but two upsets in the opening rounds of the 2025 Over-80's KO. He was always going to be a handfull with a +7 handicap although it wasn't the biggest handicap total of the day. However it was just enough to get Peter over the line against his two opponents both by the same 21-20 scoreline.
The first opponent in his sights was the man who has won every honour in the Huddersfield Veterans Calendar, Frank Greenwood. At the same time Marsh United bowler Trevor Sykes was seeing off the 2024 Over-80's Champion, Gordon Walker by the 21-15 score. That put the two victors up against each other when Peter was first over the line in an excellent quarter-final match.
In the other half of the draw, Netherton stalwart Dennis Garner had a big 21-7 win over Alan Stephenson and then took out Dalton bowler, Dave Mathews by 21-13 in the quarter-finals. The full set of results, some action photos from the day and the draw for the Semi-Finals are further down the page.
