Only one former winner of the Over-70's Knock-Out title had entered this year's competition and that was the 2023 winner Graham Hirst of Lowerhouses. Graham played two rounds on Friday, won them both and progresses through to Finals Day which will be played at Lockwood Con on Thursday 12 June. There he will meet a second McCluckey brother in the quarter-finals.
Frank Greenwood would very much like to have claimed this one title missing from his collection and even though he qualifies for an Over-90's KO if there was one, he still remains a major scalp for any bowler. This year that honour went to Broad Oak bowler Paul Rushworth who had a +7 handicap start on his opponent but didn't need it.
Paul Rangeley would very much like to emulate his father, Bernard, who was the 1987 winner of this title and he remains very much in the frame for further progress after claiming his quarter-final place on Friday. Worryingly there were only 22 entries this year, a reduction on the 28 from the 2024 competition which in itself was a record low.
All the results from Friday's opening rounds on two greens are listed below along with the quarter-finals line-up.
