No Yorkshire joy in BCGBA Veterans KO

Bowling News

The two Yorkshire qualifiers for the BCGBA Jack & Jean Isherwood Veterans Championship both went out at the first hurdle but that doesn't tell the whole story.

Huddersfield's Ashley Daykin and Leeds bowler Roger Birdsall were the two Yorkshire qualifiers and they travelled to the Prees Cricket & Recreation Club in Shropshire for the final day of competition for the Jack & Jean Isherwood Trophy. Ashley Daykin was drawn against one of the four Wales qualifiers, Graham Bennett, and went down 20-21 after a Titanic clash. The winner went on to have two more wins to reach the semi-finals where he came up against Clive Chapman from Greater Manchester. Clive Chapman had beaten Roger Birdsall 21-18 in the opening round and he went on to record a 21-8 semi-final win over Graham Bennett and then took the title with a 21-16 win over another Wales qualifier, Gareth M Williams.
