Winter League
Review of the Division 5 & 6 fixtures played on Thursday 9 November
Quite a day in Division 5 for surprise results as none of the top four teams won their matches this Thursday. Starting at the top and working down with the leaders Outlane being held 4-4 by Mirfield A.
The leaders only won one of the three games against their mid-table opponents but retained their unbeaten record, the only one in this division now. Outlane retained top spot as their two nearest rivals both lost their matches this week to opponents both winning for the first time this season.
Brockholes B went down 2-6 to bottom-of-the-table Jackson Bridge whilst third-placed Slaithwaite lost to the same scoreline against Almondbury BC B who may have finally shaken off their hangover disappointment from last season's last day loss and missing out on promotion.
Fourth-placed Huddersfield Recreation Club B didn't win but they didn't lose either drawing 4-4 with Springwood C who still sit one place and two points behind them. The outcome of all those surprise results is a contracted league table with the bottom half teams closing in on the top four. However, amongst all that, there was just one place change as Jackson Bridge moved off the bottom of the table when swapping places with Netherton Con B who were without a fixture this week.
The clash of the two bottom teams in Division 6 saw Broad Oak come out on top with an 8-0 victory over Mirfield B who drop into the bottom place as a result. The Broad Oak team's first win lifted them two places to overtake Kirkheaton Con B who went down 0-8 to the leaders Linthwaite Hall who have two points and a match in hand over second-placed Lockwood Con B. The Lockwood team are starting to come to terms with bowling in the League with a third successive win, this time over Cowcliffe B, and a run of three fixtures against bottom-half teams coming up next can only see them look to consolidate their position. Some of the bowling in this match would have graced a higher standard than that normally delivered in Division 5 especially the Mick Shore v Graham Radcliffe encounter.
New Mill C also collected their third win on the bounce when seeing off Golcar C&BC 6-2 and they remain handily positioned in the chasing pack of four teams only separated by six points. Which of those four teams emerges as the most potent threat to the promotion aspirations of the top two remains to be seen and may not be obvious until the halfway point in the season when each team will have played all the other teams in the division.
