A review of the Divisions 1&2 matches played on Tuesday 14 April

The big two teams in Division 1 got off to impressive opening day wins as both clocked up away victories to start the season off. Clayton West actually beat the Division 1 Champions, Lowerhouses, last season but there was no repeat of that on their own green as the reigning Champions got their season off to the ideal start hitting the West with an 8-1 hammering. Last year's runners up were Longwood and they also had a good away win overcoming Lindley Lib A 6-3 but that only puts them into 6th place in the early table.
Promoted Elland WMC had a great start to their season recording an 8-1 home win over Kirkheaton Con A to go top of the table. Lockwood Con A and Golcar Lib A both had 7-2 home wins to start their season with Marsh United A and Cowcliffe on the receiving ends of those scorelines. The other promoted team was Elland C&BC and they went down 3-6 to Rastrick.

All six home teams won their opening day Division 2 fixtures on Tuesday with two of them claiming 8-1 winning scorelines. Lindley BC A and Meltham A have both been relegated from Division 1 in the last two seasons and in fact the Meltham team are a real Yo-Yo team having been promoted or relegated between the top two divisions in each of the last three seasons.
They have started the new season in a familiar way after thrashing Milnsbridge A 8-1 to go 2nd in the opening dat table. Lindley BC A dropped out of the top division 2 years ago and endured a difficult season last year finishing in the bottom half of the Division 2 table. a much brighter start this time around as they saw off the Denby Dale side who finished above them last season.
Big 7-2 home wins for Hemplow A and Almondbury Lib shows promise for the two teams promoted from Division 3 along with Netherton Con A.
