Bowling News
The BCGBA has decided that bowlers need a new code of conduct to tell them how to behave on and around the green. It is unclear what has prompted this action, was there an old Code of Conduct that had become outdated?
No doubt the creation of this document took a number of meetings of like-minded do-gooders who needed to while away a few hours of pontification and discussion. At a time when the sport is failing to attract new bowlers, teams are reducing year-on-year and clubs are closing the ruling body of our sport spends time in compiling a document of little value which will not lift our sport out of it's downward spiral. Lets put that to one side for a moment and see what gems this Code of Conduct contains.
Here are just a few cuttings from the full document which I offer without further comment,
All participants and spectators are expected to know the rules of the game
All participants and spectators have the right to express their views and be listened to
Players are the most important people in the sport
Officials and administrators are an important part of the game. Their efforts can greatly enhance or sometimes even diminish the enjoyment of the game. It is essential that the authority of their position is recognised and accepted
All spectators should: • Participate in a positive manner • Treat all participants equally
Parents should recognise the rights of their children to have fun
NON-COMPLIANCE
• This Code of Conduct should be seen as a guide to best practice to allow enjoyment of the sport by all those involved.
• However failures to comply will inevitably occur
• In these cases, it is essential that some value judgement is provided and disciplinary action is taken
The full 3-page document is available below for you to download and read at your leisure.
