Meltham extend lead at top of Division 2

Review of the results from Divisions 1&2 matches played on Monday 20 July

Clayton West's Division 1 impressive revival with four successive wins, unsurprisingly came to an end at leaders Lowerhouses this week. A 2-7 defeat at the home of the reigning League Champions is no disgrace. However, with only 10 points between the teams in 4th and 12th positions, it is a very tight division this season and no team can afford a bad run of results. That certainly applies to my team, Kirkheaton Con A. A first home defeat of the season this week against Elland WMC made it only one win in our last 5 fixtures and a bottom of the table placing is the price to pay.

That win for the promoted Elland WMC team saw them go third in the table , one place behind Rastrick who returned to winning ways with a 6-3 away win at neighbours Elland C&BC and now sit 20 points behind the leaders. Golcar Lib A also had a good away win beating Cowcliffe 6-3, and they are rewarded with 4th place in the updated table.

Longwood were the only winners in the bottom four as they beat Lindley Lib A 7-2 who they passed in the table as a result. A 5-4 home win for Marsh United A over Lockwood Con A completed the day's programme.

Division 2 leaders, Meltham A, made it 5 wins in their last 6 with a 6-3 away win at Milnsbridge A and built up a 9-point lead over their nearest rival, Netherton Con A, who lost 2-7 away at Thongsbridge A, who move up to third place as a result. Shepley continued their revival and made it 3 wins out of 4 when thrashing bottom-of-the-table Hemplow A by 9-0. That landslide win sees the losers slipping to 20 points from safety and joining them in the relegation places is Almondbury Lib after their 2-7 defeat at Broad Oak A who leave the drop zone for now.

There was also a big 8-1 win for Denby Dale at home to Lindley BC A and they now sit just one place and two points behind their rivals. Waterloo clocked up only their second win in their last eight matches when seeing off Almondbury BC A with a 6-3 home win and with their next two matches being against the bottom two teams they will expect, and need, to go on a winning run to rekindle any promotion hopes.
