Review of Tuesday results from Divisions 3,4&5 of the Veterans 10-Man League

An away match at the top team in Division 3 is never easy, especially when you only manage to field 9 bowlers on the day. That is the mountain that Thorpe Green had to face when playing at New Mill A on Tuesday and the inevitable happened. They lost. The 8-1 scoreline rubbing salt into the wound and making it 4 defeats in their last 5 fixtures for the Thorpe Green side dropping closer to the relegation tussle as a result. That scoreline enabled the New Mill A side to extend their lead at the top to 9 points with their major rivals Golcar Lib B and Linthwaite Hall recording 7-2 home wins over bottom three opponents Slaithwaite and Skel Windmill respectively. Linthwaite Hall's 7-2 home win over Skel Windmill kept them very much in the promotion picture, being one point away from the second promotion place.

Holmfirth A remain rooted to the foot of the table after a 1-8 defeat at Paddock I&C whilst Kirkheaton C&BC A moved in the right direction with a 7-2 home win over Brockholes A. Lindley Lib B lost a home match for a second time in a week when losing by the same 2-7 scoreline with Springwood the benefactors this time. That was an excellent 7-2 away win for the Springwood team and narrowed the gap between the two teams to four points with both seemingly destined for a mid-table finish.

The Division 4 top of the table clash involving the top two teams went the way of Marsh Lib A who smashed the Kirkheaton Con B team by 8-1 to overtake them at the top of the table. That allowed Huddersfield RUBC to take closer order on the second promotion place after beating Meltham B 6-3 and they are now just 4 points behind second place. Thongsbridge B kept themselves in contention for a promotion place when winning away 8-1 at Lockwood Con B.

That result saw the Lockwood Con team drop back into the relegation places and there was only one winner from teams in the bottom half of the table. That was Marsh United B who won 5-4 away from home against fellow strugglers Brockholes B. David Brown Sports almost collected a third win of the season before losing out on the bonus points from the better aggregate score by 117-118 to Milnsbridge B and losing out 4-5 on points.

Netherton Con B leapfrogged Broad Oak B to reclaim the top spot in Division 5 with an emphatic 8-1 home victory over New Mill B. The Broad Oak side remain well in contention following a 6-3 away win at Greenhead Park. Lindley BC B completed a trio of wins for the top three teams by beating Marsh Lib B at home by 6-3 and sending their opponents down to the bottom-of-the-table. A good 6-3 home win for Almondbury BC B over Primrose Hill Lib B lifted them up one place and overtaking a Marsh Lib team going in the opposite direction.
