THE 2024-25 DIVISION 7 FINAL TABLE
Five of the 8 teams that played in Division 7 last season will be at it again in the same division for the new season. The bottom two teams from last season, Lockwood Con B and Broad Oak A, both presented good cases why they shouldn't be relegated, both related to logistical reasons why they needed to stay in Division 7, and both reasons were accepted by the League's Management Committee. No such problems with the top two teams from last season as Cowcliffe B and Hanging Heaton are moving on to try their luck in Division 6. They are replaced by Huddersfield Recreation Club B and New Mill C who both drop down from Division 6.
Holmfirth are also new to this Division having finished as Division 8 runners-up last term. They will get an early gauge as to their competitiveness when taking on Broad Oak A this week, when anything less than a hearty win will start the flashing warning lights beaming their disapproval.
A strong contender for the 2025-26 Division 7 Champions title, in my estimation, is the Marsh Lib team, now Marsh Lib A, following the introduction of a club B team in Division 9 this season. Finishing last season on the same points total as promoted Hanging Heaton B they will be looking to go one better, at least, and in so doing secure an end-of-season promotion. They get my vote to do just that with an emphatic Champions campaign. I believe that the Kirkheaton Con B will escort them through the promotion banner in keeping with their improved form and results in their successful Veterans League season.
It is obviously likely that Lockwood Con B and Broad Oak A will finish in the bottom two places again, they finished over 20 points from safety last season and if nothing has changed we may be looking at a repeat performance. Whilst Division 7 bowling may not be the most competitive in the League I have always found it to be one of the most welcoming and a general good feeling about the teams that meet their weekly throughout the season. I am looking forward to it all over again this Thursday.
