Lowerhouses are Champions-in-Waiting

Veterans League

Preview of the 10-Man League Divisions 1&2 fixtures for Tuesday 17 September

A Tuesday win for Lowerhouses at Kirkheaton Con A will secure them their first ever Division 1 title. Five points is all they need to ensure that they cannot be caught after leading the table for most of the season. Longwood and Marsh United A are likely to continue their battle for the runners-up slot until the final week of the season and both have tricky away matches this week.

Waterloo looked to be threatening to break into the top two for much of the season but with only 2 wins in their last 7 has seen them slide down the table and they can now only hope to scupper Longwood's chances of taking 2nd place. One point behind them sit Marsh United A who have to play at the home of the double-winning Champions, Golcar Lib A, who have put up a disappointing defence of the title, dropping into the bottom half of the table.

At the foot of the table Lindley BC A have their last chance to salvage hopes of getting out of the relegation places with a home match against a Netherton Con A team that will inevitably be relegated next week if not this. There is a real danger that with Lindley BC and Netherton Con holding down the bottom places that both teams will return to the division they so convincingly left a year ago.

Meltham have looked like the Division 2 Champions for almost 6 months and could confirm that at New Mill A this week. A win will ensure promotion, a big win will mean the title as well. Meanwhile Lindley Lib A and Elland C&BC will continue to concentrate on the battle for the second promotion spot with both having home matches this Tuesday against bottom half of the table opponents.

Almondbury Lib with 13 defeats on the trot look destined for the drop but who will go down with them remains to be sorted. One from three with three points between Linthwaite Hall, Golcar Lib B and Broad Oak A with the latter having the best recent record with 5 wins in their last 7. Golcar Lib have won 2 of their last 5 but it is Linthwaite Hall who are in relegation form losing their last 4 fixtures. They will need to improve on that to close the 3 points gap that currently exists with a trip to bottom team Almondbury Lib offering a platform to move on and up.
