Lindley BC win first game in 12

Veterans League

Review of the results in Divisions 1&2 of the 10-Man League matches played on 27 August

The six fixtures in Division 1 this week produced five 6-3 scorelines with the odd ones out being the surprise result of the day as Lindley BC A won 7-2 away at Lockwood Con A to keep themselves out of the relegation places. That ended a run of 11 consecutive defeats stretching back to early May and will bring them some confidence in advance of next week's 18-pointer against Clayton West. Clayton West remain in the drop zone despite a good 6-3 home win over a faltering Waterloo side that has now lost its last 5 fixtures

It increasingly looks like it is Netherton Con for the drop plus one of Clayton West or Lindley BC A. The Netherton team find themselves further adrift after this week's fixtures as they went down 3-6 at home to Longwood as their two nearest rivals were both winning. The gap to safety is now 13 points although they do have to play both of the teams directly above them even though both matches are away from home.

Surprisingly Marsh United A lost 3-6 at home to Cowcliffe and drop to third place behind Longwood. With Lowerhouses winning their home match against Golcar Lib the gap at the top has widened to 19 points.

The real interest in Division 2 now rests with the race to claim the 2nd promotion place as Meltham are well out of reach with a 27-point advantage over anyone. That leaves Lindley Lib A and Elland C&BC fighting it out for 2nd place. Both lost tricky away fixtures this week but Elland picked up 3 points from their trip to Shepley whereas the Lindley Lindley side only managed to escape from Shepley with one point.

Despite getting 4 points from their day out at Golcar Lib B, Almondbury Lib are well behind the pack of four teams above them who are only separated by 4 points with one of the four destined to join the Almondbury team in dropping a level for next year. Golcar Lib B being one of that cluster of four with a reshuffle of the other three teams as Broad Oak A and Linthwaite Hall both losing this week. Broad Oak's run of 4 wins on the bounce predictably ended at Meltham and Linthwaite Hall went down 3-6 at home to Thongsbridge courtesy of a 128-126 aggregate win. Broad Oak and Linthwaite Hall go head-to-head next week in another 18-pointer.
