Lindley BC clubhouse 1900

Memories

This grainy photograph of the opening of the new clubhouse at Lindley Bowling Club in 1900 is remarkable for two reasons. The first being that included in the photo is a white horse complete with James Nield Sykes as rider. No one seems to know the purpose of the inclusion of a horse in the formal opening day photograph but there must be something behind that. Maybe a Lindley BC member could tell us the story behind that and who was James Nield Sykes? The second thing worthy of note is that there are around 70 people included in the photo - all of them men! And when did the conservatory get added to the front of the clubhouse?
