Veterans League
This Thursday sees the Quarter-Finals of the Veterans 6-Man League team knock-out competition. With both of last year's winner, Netherton Con, and runners-up, Thongsbridge A,
already eliminated from this year's competition who are the prime contenders?
Maybe it is time for Slaithwaite to go one stage further than they have done for the last two years as a losing semi-finalist. They have a good track record in this competition having won the 2021 Covid-affected competition and are the only previous winners still in the 2024 competition. They meet a New Mill team who have the biggest handicap (+10) of any team left in contention which will have to be overcome.
Or maybe we could be heading towards an all-Milnsbridge Final as both their teams are still very much in the running and in different halves of the draw. Milnsbridge have never won this trophy so there is an added incentive there. The two teams standing in their way at this stage are Brockholes A and Golcar C&BC.
Brockholes A have to overcome a 6-points start that the Milnsbridge B team have but having already been responsible for the elimination of last year's competition winners they will be confident of doing that. The Milnsbridge A v Golcar C&BC tie pairs up two mid-table teams from Division 1 and they are only separated by two points. The two teams have met in the League this season at Golcar C&BC where the home team were the 6-1 winners but a neutral green could signal a change in fortunes.
Waterloo and Marsh United A are two teams without a JFT winners title to their name and the two scratch Division 1 teams go up against each other on the Bradley & Colne green. Both teams are in the top three in the Division 1 table and Marsh United came out victorious 6-1 when the two teams met in a League match earlier in the season.
