Review of Tuesday's penultimate round of fixtures in the 10-Man League Divisions 1 & 2

Longwood and Marsh United A limped through 5-4 home wins in their Division 1 Tuesday fixtures which means the gap between the teams remains at 7 points. So should Longwood get 3 points or more from their final fixture away at Golcar Lib A then they will take the runners-up position. Anything less could open the door to Marsh United A who have to go to Kirkheaton Con A for their final match of the season. Only Lowerhouses and Marsh United A have beaten Longwood in the second half of the season so it is odds on that they will manage to claim the minimum points and finish in second place.

The Champion, Lowerhouses, had no problems disposing of Lindley BC A by 8-1 on Tuesday leaving their Lindley opponents relying on a final day turnaround to save their Division 1 future. They are 7 points behind Rastrick who they play on the final day and only a 9-0 win can save them now. With Rastrick having a much better Aggregate For total nothing less than a whitewash win can keep the Lindley side in the top division next season.

In Division 2 Elland C&BC crept two points closer to catching Lindley Lib A after an 8-1 away win at Broad Oak A. This at least gives them a chance of claiming the second promotion place. The gap is down to 4 points after Lindley Lib took 6 points from their trip to Golcar Lib B. With Elland C&BC at home for their last match which is against relegation-threatened Linthwaite Hall and Lindley Lib hosting Shepley A there is still lots to play for. With Elland having the much superior Aggregate For score the Lindley team need to win this match to clinch promotion and deny the Elland team an immediate return to the top level.

At the foot of the table we are now down to one from three to take the second relegation place with Golcar Lib B, Linthwaite Hall and Broad Oak A all within one point of each other in the sure knowledge that one of the three will be accompanying Almondbury Lib through the relegation trapdoor. All three lost their home matches on Tuesday but they were playing the top three teams. Broad Oak taking the heaviest loss going down 1-8 to Elland C&BC which produced the two-points gap that they now have to fill. It could go down to the Aggregate For totals to separate the teams with Broad Oak on 2438 which is the best of the three rivals as Linthwaite Hall have 2316 and Golcar Lib B have 2362.
