Inter-District teams v Skipton

Veterans League

The Huddersfield Veterans Inter-District team have cruised into 2nd place in the Yorkshire Veterans Inter-District League after a big win over Wakefield two weeks ago. This Friday they meet the Skipton team who are 5th in the table but the top team of the teams that have only played 3 fixtures to date so making them very dangerous opponents.

The home leg will be played at Linthwaite Hall with a 1.00pm start this Friday 27 June. The selected team being Andy Carter, Stephen Haigh, John Bloomer, Mick Chapman, Robert Dickinson, Ray Whitwam, Graham Sigsworth, Andy Wike. Reserves Tony Cross, Peter Kain, non-playing captain Frank Greenwood, manager David Armitage.

The away team play at Sutton Park, Sutton in Craven BD20 7JS. Captain Malcolm Gilbert selects from the same squad that had six winners at Wakefield. That is Malcolm Gilbert, Dave Pollard, Tim Poulter, Dave Sykes, Roger Stopford, Tony Butterfield, Steve Mallinson, Garry Senior, Edwin Haigh and Derek Hewitt.

The table below shows that two of the main threats to the Huddersfield team meet each other as the West Riding team take on their Halifax counterparts. The leaders are Leeds and they have a bye week so the over-riding assumption is that the Huddersfield team will produce another big win and go clear at the top. Whether that works out remains to be seen but that has to be the target if the team is to remain in contention for the rest of the season.

The Huddersfield team is without a match in July as the Hickson Trophy takes up one Friday fixture day and it is a bye week for our team on the other July Friday fixture date. Thiings are hotting up and the team will be looking to stay firmly in the pack chasing the ultimate prize.
