Inter-District team beaten but not down

Veterans League

The Huddersfield Veterans Inter-District team were beaten 27-29 by Halifax on Friday which leaves them in 5th place in the table, exactly the same position as they finished the 2024 season. It has been a testing opening to the new season with opening fixtures against two teams that finished last season above them in the league. One win and one narrow defeat isn't the end of the world for their chances of improving on last season's position. A run of four fixtures against teams that finished below them in last year's table awaits them and all four must be won if an improvement is to be achieved.

That starts with a match against Aire & Wharfe who finished their first season in the League in 6th place last season, one behind the Huddersfield team, and seem to be building on that this time around although they did go down 24-32 to Skipton in Week 2.

The latest league table below shows that last season's top teams are still in good form with the top three unchanged and in the same positions with the West Riding team mounting a strong defence to winning the title again. It is fair to say that all four teams above our side in the table have had easier starts with none of them having to take on two top-four rivals as our team has done.
