Veterans League
It is the final round of fixtures this Friday in the Yorkshire Veterans Inter-District League when the Huddersfield team will be battling for the runners-up spot. They take on their West Riding counterparts with the winners likely to claim second place behind Leeds in the end-of-season table.
With a 5-points lead to overcome to rest second place from the West Riding side will be a big challenge but with a total of 56 points to be won it is a challenge the team is well capable of responding to.
With Leeds seemingly heading to take the title with a final match against Skipton it remains for the two West Yorkshire teams to fight it out for the runners up spot. Aire & Wharfe currently sit above both teams in the table with an 8-point lead over our team but they have completed their fixture programme. A close outcome in our match could open the door for the Halifax team to pass both teams to pinch second place. It is always good to have something to play for right to the last match of the season and with a finishing position that could be 2nd or 5th or anywhere in-between, there is plenty to retain the interest on the final day.
Huddersfield has selected Brockholes as the home green for this key tie whilst the away side have to travel to Hightown Liberal Club to go head-to-head with their neighbours. The away team will be selected from this squad of 10 bowlers: Tony Butterfield, Adrian Cooper, Edwin Haigh, Malcolm Gilbert (captain), Derek Hewitt, Peter Hopkinson, Dave Pollard, Tim Poulter, Garry Senior, Steve Mallinson and Dave Sykes.
The home team is Robert Dickinson, John Bloomer, Mick Chapman, Stephen Haigh, Robert Spencer, Ray Whitwam, Graham Sigsworth, Andy Wike. Reserves Tony Cross, Barry Gibson. Non-playing Captain Frank Greenwood, Manager David Armitage.
