Incident-packed JFT Quarter-Finals

Veterans League

The four quarter-final ties in the latest round of the Julie Fuller Trophy competition were played out yesterday on neutral greens. No doubt about the closest tie with Lindley Lib A and Clayton West A drawing 59-59 with their aggregate scores. That meant the game scores came into play which showed that Clayton West had won 2 of the 3 games and so progressed through to the semi-finals.

Having a player short in any match is to be avoided especially when that means you are one-third down in numbers as three pairs is the JFT format. That is what happened to the Marsh United A team and that was too much for them to recover from, going down in all three pairs games to be eliminated 27-70. That result pits Broad Oak against the Division 1 leaders, Clayton West A in the first semi-final.

The giant-killing acts of Division 4 team Greenhead Park B are over after losing to Division 1 side Shepley A. Having beaten their own A team and then Division 2 side Longwood they were on a roll but losing one of the three games by 2-21 is asking too much of any team and proved their undoing but they remain this year's giant-killers-supreme!

The all-Division 1 clash saw Thongsbridge A repeating their earlier league match win over relegation-threatened Golcar C&BC. A comfortable 61-44 win for Thongsbridge takes them through to the semi-finals where they will take on Shepley A in an all-Division 1 tie.
