Veterans League
On an eventful final day of the Yorkshire Veterans Inter-District League season, the Huddersfield team ended the day as they started it - in 4th position. All the dreams and potential to finish second evaporated in the reality of action on the green. A 21-35 defeat to the West Riding team saw our opponents finish as clearly the 2nd best team in the competition only losing one match all season, the best record of the nine teams. They finished 13 points behind the Leeds team who had a last day disaster going down 22-34 to Skipton but had points in hand to clinch the title. Somehow they hung on to top spot despite having 3 teams to have lost less games than them and have 2 teams that had won more games than them.
The win for Skipton over the title winners highlighted another good day for the Skipton side, as no team won more matches than they did and clearly a side on the up and more to come from them next season? The fast-finishing Halifax team moved up from 5th to 3rd place on the last day after recording the biggest win of the day when beating Wakefield 42-14 and included Leeds among their list of teams beaten. Aire & Wharfe had a good second season in the competition finishing in 6th position to show improvement on last year's end position.
