Two Peter Muff articles from The Huddersfield Daily Examiner dated 27 October 1992 when he reports on the Annual Prize Presentation of the Huddersfield League and Slaithwaite's proud moment when collecting the Subscription Cup. Going on to look at the line-up for the Crosland Moor Liberal's Floodlight Final as part of a big money weekend in Huddersfield bowling circles which included the November Handicap at the Griffin Inn.

There was also the special presentation of an inscribed tankard to John Wright of Longwood for being the Huddersfield Player of the Year in their Hills Supplies Yorkshire Inter-District League programme in which they finished runners-up to Halifax. He won six out of his seven games away from home


By PETER MUFF FOUR Huddersfield crown green bowling finals will have more than £3,000 in prize money at the weekend The Crosland Moor Liberal Club’s £1,280 floodlight final on Saturday (5.00pm) has a first prize of £400 and the Meltham Bowling Club’s £1,000 Holroyd Autumn Classic earlier the same day (1.00pm) has £300 for the winner.


The two Sunday events are the £470 Bob and Vera mixed pairs final at Meltham (2.00pm) and the £420 November Handicap final at the Griffin Inn (11.30am) with both competitions having a top prize of £160 Two former Yorkshire Merit winners — Allan Thompson and Robert Hitchen — clash in the first round of the Holroyd Autumn Over £3,000 has already been raised by the Huddersfield Crown Green Bowling Association for their two nominated charities for 1992 — the Huddersfield branch of Spina Bifida and the Ellerslie Child Development Unit.


A raffle at their annual presentation evening at Golcar Liberal Club raised more than £100 for the funds Classic for which the full draw is: G Telford (Manchester) v G Hirst (Lower Hopton) K Strutt (Diggle) v D Scott (Keighley) R Hitchen (Halifax) v A Thompson (Mirfield Old Bank) T Giles (Crosland Moor) v T King (Stockport) B Hyde (Barnsley) v D Blackburn (Slaithwaite) C Mordue (Bradford) v D Allen (Barnsley) B Starkey (Slaithwaite) v M Geraghty (Flixton) K T Shaw (Bolton) v J Dews (Slaithwaite) The draw for the Bob and Vera mixed pairs tournament at the same club on Sunday is: J Muff and I Burgin v M Lockwood and M Cox H Lunn and C Squires v D Bamforth and H Haigh E Woolerton and J Kaye v D and K Strutt L Rigg and L Rigg v L Gledhill v A Singleton.


Sixteen competitors contest the November Handicap final at the Griffin Inn the town’s winter bowling club which has just moved into its 25th season and the draw is: P Todd v Ineson M J Sykes v T Wilson R Wormald v J Aspinall D Walkden v D Sykes Graham Sigsworth v S Simpson J Stewart v B Starkey D Scott v A Hirst P Sigsworth v J Wright The final card for the Crosland Moor tournament will not be known until the middle stages have been completed tonight and Thursday
