Veterans League
With two matches still to play the Yorkshire Inter-District League season is effectively over for the Huddersfield team after the latest round of fixtures. A resounding double defeat for both the home and away teams against their West Riding opponents surely means the end of any title aspirations this season.
Both the home and away teams lost by the same 8-20 scoreline to register a resounding 16-40 loss which was sufficient to dislodge our team from the top of the table position they occupied going into this round of fixtures. Hanging on to second place for now but with the West Riding, Bradford and reigning Champions, Leeds, all within range of overtaking them with a match in hand things look very bleak.
Playing the home leg at Almondbury BC after the 27-1 success against Wakefield on the same green last month backfired big style with a humiliating first home defeat of the campaign. The away team were off-song as well to go down by the same 8-20 scoreline.
The next round of fixtures pitches the Huddersfield team against one of their major rivals, Bradford, whilst their three nearest challengers all play bottom-three teams which will surely see confirmation of the ending of any title hopes this season.
