Hat-trick of titles for Huddersfield bowler

Club News

I am grateful to Alan Crowther for this report and photos from the Final stages of the fifth running of the Roger Crowther Memorial Handicap at Longwood BC on Easter Monday.

A gloriously sunny day and a bumper crowd plus all 42 entries taking part contributed to raising a magnificent £500 for Kirkwood Hospice.

Neil Slattery , previous winner in 2023 and 2024, took the honours in 2026 therefore completing a hat-trick of wins. Slattery had a comfortable path to the semi-final where he beat Wayne Moseley 21-20 in the match of the day.

Runner-up Gareth Metcalfe had a scare in the last 16 round where he had to overcome a 17-10

deficit against home bowler David Walkden and then squeezing past Kris Lunn in the semi-final 21-17.

The other highlight of the day was young Harry Brook, a 11th hour substitute, whose impressive display of bowling enabled him to reach the last 8. Young Brook is also the holder of the Junior Gambart Baines 2025 competition which is also sponsored by the Crowther family
