Golcar Lib to test new Division 1 leaders

Veterans League

Preview of the fixtures in Divisions 1 & 2 of the 10-Man League for Tuesday 8 July

Golcar Lib A sit in third position in the Division 1 table at present, 10 points behind the new leaders Lowerhouses. This Tuesday they have the opportunity to narrow that gap considerably with a home fixture against the leaders. Having lost their last home match against Lindley Lib A they will be keen to address that issue and retain an interest in the title race. Longwood were disposed out of top spot last week despite extending their winning run to three matches. This week they are away at Kirkheaton Con A who have only won one of their last six matches.

The Kirkheaton team are one of seven teams separated by five points in a long mid-table of teams having between 42 and 47 points. The bottom two teams are in danger of becoming seriously adrift with Meltham B and Waterloo 14 points from safety with the halfway point of the season imminent. That 14-points gap between Meltham B and Lindley Lib A could change this week when the two teams play each other with bottom team Waterloo having to travel to play Cowcliffe.

Elland-based teams continue to set the pace in the Division 2 table with just 3-points between them at present as Elland WMC have pulled back a much bigger margin over the the last three weeks when they have won all their fixtures whilst Elland C&BC have lost all three of their matches in that time. Both have home fixtures this week with, on paper, Elland WMC having the easier match against second from bottom Golcar Lib B, The C&BC meanwhile have to take on third-placed Thongsbridge A.

Only New Mill A of the bottom four teams have a home fixture this week when they host fellow strugglers Denby Dale. However the Denby side have won their last two matches, a record which cannot be matched by any of their relegation rivals
