Golcar Lib on edge of 2nd relegation in 3 years

Preview of the Division 1 fixtures to be played on Wednesday 28 January

If Golcar Lib don't win their Division 1 match against Cowcliffe by 8-0 on Wednesday then they will be relegated. An immediate return to Division 2. Having lost all 10 of their matches this season to date it would have to be the supreme optimist who would forecast a win for them. They joined the League three years ago after being put straight into the top division after winning the Huddersfield Veterans League Division 1 title the previous season. They finished bottom destroying all that confidence bestowed on them to start in the top division.

Last year it was only the wonderful record of Hanging Heaton A in winning the Division 2 title that stopped them from taking the title themselves. With only one defeat all last season they seemed destined for a better Division 1 experience this time around. However, it hasn't worked out that way. Now on the verge of a second relegation in three years what can we expect from them in the future? Who knows but we do know that life is never dull for the Golcar Lib team as there is always something to play for.

Kirkheaton Con A look odds-on to be joining them in dropping through the relegation trapdoor and a fixture against a Lower Hopton team that hasn't given up their own hopes of winning a third title will not increase their own hopes of survival.

With only one defeat in their last 5 fixtures, New Mill A have recovered from a slow start to the season and will be a testing challenger for a Thorpe Green team looking for a hat-trick of titles. However with only one defeat all season Thorpe Green are the top target for any Division 1 teams but only Lower Hopton have breached that frontage this season. Lindley BC A are not safe from relegation yet so they will be keen to put some more points on the board against Hanging Heaton A before either of the bottom two produce results above their station.
