Golcar Lib knocked off top spot

Veterans League

Review of the results from Tuesday's Division 1 & 2 fixtures in the Veterans 10-Man League

Division 1 leaders Golcar Lib A were surprisingly beaten 3-6 away at Lockwood Con A and were knocked off the top spot in the table. Both Longwood and Lowerhouses moved above them after both recorded 8-1 home wins over Lindley Lib A and Waterloo respectively.

Kirkheaton Con A lost 3-6 away at 2nd from bottom Meltham and are joined on 31 points by Rastrick who had a good 7-2 home win against a 9-man Clayton West team and have now passed them in the table. Waterloo are having a tough time after losing 1-8 to Lowerhouses and have only collected 10 points in total from their 6 fixtures to date and are still looking for their first win of the season. The four teams immediately above them have all got Won-2 Lost-4 records and that includes a Marsh United A team that finished in 3rd place last season and seemed destined to be a major challenger for honours this season.

The pressure is mounting on the top two teams in Division 2 and although the two Elland teams continue to sit at the top of the table the chasing pack creep closer after this week's results. Elland C&BC were pushed all the way at Broad Oak A and had to rely on the aggregate bonus points to pinch the points in a 5-4 win and stay well clear at the top. The Elland C&BC have points in the bank to cover any such dips but things are different for their neighbours. Elland WMC lost for a 2nd time when going down 2-7 at home to Almondbury BC A and that means that both of their defeats were on their own green.

That allowed Shepley, Thongsbridge A, Milnsbridge A and Broad Oak A to narrow the gap to the 2nd promotion place. The WMC now only have a lead of 2 points over their nearest challenger Shepley who clocked up a 7-2 home win over a struggling Denby Dale team. They weren't the only team to narrow that gap as Thongsbridge A had a good 7-2 home win over Lindley BC A who dropped from 5th to 8th but the winners moved in the opposite direction, going 3 places higher to 4th.

Milnsbridge A completed the Division 2 programme with a 5-4 away victory at Netherton Con A who fought all the way but were beaten by the aggregate bonus points after losing out 111-115. That result enabled Netherton Con A to move off the bottom of the table and out of the relegation places passing Denby Dale and Golcar Lib B after their match versus New Mill A was postponed until 10 June.
