Golcar Lib B go top of the Division 3 table

Veterans League

Review of the results in Divisions 3,4&5 played on Tuesday 21 April

Big 8-1 home Division 3 wins for Golcar Lib B and New Mill A push both teams into the two promotion places Week 2 of the new season. Skel Windmill and Springwood were on the wrong end of those scorelines and they now occupy the two relegation places. Holmfirth A and Lindley Lib B did sut in the top two places previously and despite Lindley Lib winning their Week 2 fixture both drop out of frame but remain very much part of the promotion chase.

Holmfirth A were top last week but a 3-6 away defeat at Kirkheaton C&BC A has pushed them out of the picture for now. The Division 3 table makes interesting reading with four teams having unbeaten openings to the season, more than any other 10-Man League division. In addition, there are four teams looking for their first win of the new campaign, again more than any other division.

For contrast look at the Brockholes A record. A 5-4 away win at Linthwaite Hall on Tuesday means that they have won both their matches to date but only sit in 5th position whereas the team they beat, Linthwaite Hall, still await their first win but sit two places behind them in 7th position, that being above two teams who have already won fixtures this term.

A 5-4 away win over fellow promoted Brockholes B team for the Kirkheaton Con B sees them claim the Division 4 top spot. That is a point ahead of Huddersfield Recreation Club who clocked up a 6-3 home win over Huddersfield RUFC.

The rare example of a team only winning 2 of the 7 games but still winning the aggregate bonus points featured in the match at Lockwood Con B. The visiting Marsh United B team won the aggregate 127-124 with just two winning games but the home team still ran out the 5-4 winners but remain at the foot of the table. They are one point behind a Ravensknowle Park side that could only field 9 bowlers and paid the consequences by going down 3-6 away at Marsh Lib A.

Broad Oak B are the only Division 5 team with a 100% win record after two matches into the new season. A 6-3 away win at Hemplow B gives them a 4-point cushion lead at the top of the table. In a mirror image there is only one team without a win to date and that is Almondbury BC B and that means they sit at the wrong end of the table .

Holmfirth B were a man short for their home match against Dalton and drop out of the promotion places as a result after a 3-6 home defeat but are among a group of four teams on the same 10-points mark
