First win for Golcar Lib

Winter League

Review of the Division 1 matches played at Milnsbridge on Wednesday 28 January

No red lines on the Division 1 table as nothing decided yet with just three more matches for all eight teams to the end of the season. Thorpe Green A enhanced their chances of clinching a third successive Division 1 title by beating New Mill A 6-2. Lower Hopton remains the greatest threat to their aspirations and an 8-0 win over Kirkheaton Con A means that they haven't gone away yet and sit firmly in the leader's wing mirror. A 9th defeat in 11 matches for the Kirkheaton team means that their five-year membership in the top division is likely to end this season.

A big first win of the season for Golcar Lib was long overdue as they beat Cowcliffe A 6-2 although it is too late to save their Division 1 status as they are 22 points from safety with only a maximum of 24 points available to them. That is three 8-0 wins whilst New Mill A would have to lose 0-8 in each of their three remaining fixtures to set up the biggest turnaround of positions in the Winter League history. It isn't going to happen.

Lindley BC A had a good 6-2 win over Hanging Heaton A which ensures that are out of reach from any heroics from the bottom two and that should secure their top level standing for another season.
