Winter League
The first four Winter Cup qualifiers from the opening round of Division 4 bowlers at Lindley Lib on Tuesday saw Simon Neve (Almondbury BC A), Mark Warrender (New Mill B), Graham Parr (Milnsbridge B) and Sue Hallas (Thorpe Green C) all progress through the Round of the Last 24 which will be played at Lindley Lib on Wednesday 10 April. Congratulations to them all. The 8 quarter-finalists will emerge from that to contest Finals Day at the same venue on Sunday 14 April when the 2024 winner will be crowned.
Probably the biggest match of the Qualifying Round saw two of the bowlers in the top three in the League averages go head-to-head for a place in the Last 24. Stuart Greaves, the 2021 losing finalist was leading Simon Neve 12-7 when a measure was called for at the 16th end. Before the measure could be completed Stuart accidentally kicked his leading wood and so conceded the end. That was a turning point as Simon took the next 10 points to eventually emerge as the 21-17 winner and joined the other three qualifiers looking forward to an April extension to the Winter season.
Two more qualifying rounds for the 2024 Winter Cup are taking place this week. Tomorrow (Thursday) the Division 6 Qualifying Round will be held at Lockwood Park RUFC when we have 31 entries competing for 4 more qualifying places. Then on Friday 11 entrants will go up against each other for another 4 qualifying slots. Both have an 11.30am start time and entrants are asked to be there 15 minutes before the start time so that the draw can be undertaken and then we can have a prompt start. There are a lot of matches to get in on Thursday.
All the rounds of the Winter Cup are being added to our Bowlsnet website and can be found by clicking on that link and then clicking on COMPS from the menu at the top of the page.
