Preview of the final fixtures in Divisions 1&2 of the Veterans 10-Man League 2025 season

The last day of the Veterans 10-Man League season is this Tuesday with a couple of issues in Division 1 still to be resolved. The top two places have long been resolved as the same as last year but in which order will they finish? Well it is Lowerhouses' title to lose with a 5-points lead requiring them to win their final fixture at home to Golcar Lib A to collect the 5-points they need to retain the title they won for the first time last season. Having won all 10 of their previous home matches this season anything less than a home win would be a shock result and would open the door to Longwood to step in and claim the title.
Lowerhouses' lead has been drastically reduced from the 20-points they held over second-placed Longwood last year and the same opponents have pushed them all the way this year to a final day climax. Longwood entertain Kirkheaton Con A both on the green and afterwards in the clubhouse which will become very rowdy should the outcome from Lowerhouses filter through as the surprise it would need to be to alter the mood of many.
At the opposite end of the table Meltham A are on the verge of making an immediate return to Division 2 for next season as only a 9-0 away win at Lindley Lib A can save them from the drop. That would give them a one-point lead over their opponents in the final table. Squashed between those teams sit Marsh United A who need 4 points from their home match against Rastrick to be sure of their status in the top Division being extended for at least one more year.

The destination of the Division 2 title and promotion places has long been decided with the two Elland rivals romping away with the top two slots. Elland C&BC finished third last year and along with the 2024 Division 3 Champions, Elland WMC, have secured a two-town success this year.
One matter still to be resolved is which team will accompany Golcar Lib B down into Division 3 after Tuesday's results. Denby Dale and New Mill A sit just about the relegation trapdoor and they meet up in this final fixture of the season. The loser of that match will be looking over their shoulder for the Netherton Con A result in their home match against Almondbury BC A. The Netherton team will be striving to prevent a second successive relegation that would be the likely outcome from anything other than a very big final-day victory.
