Picked up this 'Fast Green' rule question from an internet site which we may all have experienced over the past month of brown greens when the jack and woods can keep rolling for ever! Do you know the answer?

League match on a very brown ‘Fast green’

Player 1 bowls both Jack & his 1st wood…… however the Jack hadn’t totally stopped & ended up going off!

Player 1's wood is now a ‘dead’ wood / out of this end!

Player 2 now rolls the Jack!

Question is who goes next & why?

Answer:

I asked a referee… player 2 sends the Jack, player 1 then sends the first bowl (as their other bowl is dead) player 2 then sends two consecutive bowls.

All well and good Mark but both you and I know that some "big competition" bowlers have their own unwritten rules.

From the BCGBA Laws of the Game Jan 2025 in the “definitions” section at the start:

D4 A ‘DEAD BOWL’ is a bowl that cannot be counted and if on the green shall be taken off the green so as not to interfere with play.

I was told at a big competition qualifier there is no such thing now as a DEAD wood....But I've not read the rules myself
